Outdoor week on Ith, Germany

18/06/2018

This outdoor learning activity took place from 10.06.2018 - 14.06.2018.

Outdoor week in Germany

Camping on the Ith. Climbing on rocks.

The host school has been offering a tent camp on the Ith, a ridge in the Weserbergland, for 10 years. In the southern part there is a campground of the DAV (The German Alpine Club), which has simple sanitary facilities and a refuge.

Camp life presented the students great challenges. These included in particular :

- Construction of storage structures - scaffolding and person tents                        - Building a fireplace and collecting firewood                                                              - Ignite a campfire and prepare food by the fire                                                            - Preparing food in a field kitchen                                                                                    - Orientation and movement in open terrain

Many of these challenges can not be overcome alone. The pupils experienced a strengthening of the self-confidence through the joint, purposeful action. Through simple interaction, the initiation of new learning experiences took  place. In addition, they appreciated teamwork.

In addition to the everyday structures, the following outdoor activities were  planned:

- Hiking in the Weserbergland                                                                                          - Explore the red-stone cave                                                                                            - Swimming in a nearby natural lake                                                                              - Climbing on nearby natural rocks

In particular, climbing offers the students opportunities to grow beyond their personal limits and to gain confidence in their own performance. The movement sequence during climbing addresses all motor channels and sensory perceptions. The movement adaptation is holistic. The technical process between security partner and climber requires simple, targeted communication structures, which are particularly suited to our student body.

The following value was added by the activity:

A camp with the associated significant reduction of everyday luxury goods and a consistent experiential orientation as well as climbing as a special outdoor sport is not offered by the partner schools so. An evaluation and reflection of the activity based on the project goals carried out by the partner schools helps to expand the offer.
